HALIFAX – A Bedford South student has made it to the regional finals of a contest for one of the world’s most visited websites.
Ten-year-old Felicitas Vician is one of 25 finalists in the Doodle 4 Google Canada competition, a contest for students from kindergarten to Grade 12 to design a logo for the Google Canada homepage. The theme of the contest was inventions.

Vician’s drawing is one about life on Mars. It features the Red Planet, a satellite and some extraterrestrial creatures.
On her application, Vician wrote: “For my Google Doodle I was thinking of doing life on Mars. My most favourite planet is Mars. So I would like to do something special. My brother Michael taught me a lot about Mars and he told me that people from NASA are trying to get people to Mars, and that they are exploring Mars right now. I dedicate my Google Doodle to my brother.”
Voting runs until Feb. 14 and the 25 finalists will then be narrowed down to five national finalists.
A jury will choose a national winner, which will be announced in Toronto Feb. 25.
The winner will receive a $10,000 university or college scholarship, a $10,000 grant to his or her school and a trip to Toronto.
The winning doodle will be featured on the Google Canada website for one day.
