WHITBY, Ont. – Police have finished their search of a stretch of the Whitby waterfront as they continue to investigate the disappearance of 52-year-old Jeffrey Boucher who went missing almost three weeks ago.
Durham Regional Police searched the waters around the Whitby Pier using an underwater search robot on loan from the Toronto Police marine unit.
The camera was lowered into the water on a 200-foot line and has an arm that can grab and move things under the water. Police say it’s safer to use the camera rather than send divers during the cold winter months.

Investigators said the robot has a camera that allows officers to search open water around the pier while operating it from shore by remote control; no vessels will be on the water.
Investigators said they have turned up no leads in the case of Boucher, who was reported missing after it’s believed he headed out for a morning run on Jan. 13.
No one saw him leave his Whitby home in January but believe, due to his routine, that he went running.
Durham Police say there are no new developments in the case and Monday’s search is a routine operation to explore all investigative options.
