PENTICTON, B.C. — He may be small in stature, but whatever he lacks in size he more than makes up for in presentation.
Newt, a four-year-old Yorkshire Terrier from Penticton, is the most awarded Yorkie in the entire country.
He’s participated in more than 200 competitions, winning best in show 22 times and named the Canadian National Yorkshire Terrier champion twice.
Now, he’s been entered in one of the most prestigious competitions in the world, the New York Westminster dog show.
But it doesn’t look like Newt will be competing south of the border. His owner, Gail Webster, doesn’t have the money to take him there after having to spend much of her time out of province to take care of a friend following surgery.
As for Newt’s future in the dog show business, his owner says he’s nearing retirement.
If they do somehow gather the funds to go to the New York show, that will be his last competition.
Webster is a dog groomer in Penticton at Okanagan K-9. Anyone wishing to donate can do so at the business.
