SASKATOON – The coach of the University of Saskatchewan’s men’s hockey team has been suspended for a homophobic email he sent to players in December.

Dave Adolph, the long-time coach of the Huskies, was suspended for two games over the private email that contained homophobic slang and was then leaked.

The internal email contained inappropriate wording, although there are no details on what exactly it said.

Adolph held a press conference to apologize for his actions.

“The words that I chose to use in my email were both inappropriate and unprofessional,” Adolph said.

“The comments were homophobic slang, something that I’m not really proud of. This language and hockey slang we use in our sport … needs to change and we need to find words that don’t express homophobic terms and we need to revamp that.”

Adolph will not be behind the bench this weekend against the top-ranked Calgary Dinos.
