As Ontario police continue investigating the death of a Calgary woman found dead in a ditch, friends say the former street teen had a hard life.
Years spent living on the streets took Kera Freeland from Calgary to Vancouver and to Toronto, where she was working at a Toronto escort agency called Cachet Ladies.
The 20-year-old, who used aliases including Kera Gray and Chloe, was found dead last Thursday in a ditch in Caledon, Ont., north of Toronto.

Freeland was last seen Jan. 15. A friend reported her missing to police in February.
Friends say that despite hard times and brushes with the law, Freeland was a good friend.
“She was a very upbeat girl. She always had a smile on her face,” said Melissa Marie Creyke, a friend living in Calgary.
Freeland spent her teens living on the streets of Calgary, said Creyke, who met her about five years ago.
In 2008, Freeland was charged by Calgary police for crashing a stolen car into an Evergreen house that burst into flames.
Friends say Freeland was diagnosed with cervical cancer.
“She will be remembered for her outgoing personality, her big heart, and always trying to help others and make sure all her friends were doing good.”
Ontario Provincial Police have not ruled the death a homicide and are trying to learn of Freeland’s last known whereabouts.
