Shots fired as students leave Citadel High School in Halifax

HALIFAX – Police say no one was injured when shots were fired outside a high school in Halifax today as students were leaving to go home for the day.

Const. Brian Palmeter says multiple shots were fired and officers found shell casings outside Citadel High School in central Halifax.

Police received a call that shots had been fired at 3:15 p.m.

Palmeter says there were reports of people fleeing the area, but police weren’t sure if they were students scattering or people who were involved in the shooting.

He says officers were in the Uniacke Square area on Gottingen Street where they were trying to find a person who they think might have been involved in the incident

A spokesman for the Halifax Regional School Board says the shots were fired near the Ahern Street exit and the incident was called in to police a few minutes later by staff.

Doug Hadley says police were in the area at the time of the incident because they heard a rumour there might be a confrontation at the school.

Palmeter says they have indications the shooting might relate to a dispute between two people or two groups.
