UPDATE: Young man dies after being hit by vehicle in Edmonton intersection

EDMONTON – A major intersection in south Edmonton was shut down Monday afternoon as police investigated a fatal pedestrian collision at Whyte Ave. and 101 Street.

“The vehicle was headed northbound on 101 Street turning westbound onto Whyte Avenue. At the same time, a pedestrian was crossing southbound on the west side of 101 Street and was struck by the vehicle,” said EPS Inspector Chad Tawfik.

Initial reports suggest the pedestrian was crossing the street legally.

“Information from witnesses at this time indicate that the light was green for north-south traffic and also the pedestrian light was activated at the time,” said Tawfik.
