In response to the need for increased sustainability, the City of Saskatoon Planning & Development Branch has introduced a new Vacant Lot & Adaptive Re-Use Incentive Program to encourage development on existing or brownfield sites, and the re-use of vacant buildings in established areas of the city.
The incentive program will offer a choice of either a five-year tax abatement or a grant, with the maximum grant amount calculation based on a five-year tax abatement. The actual amount of the incentive is earned based on a point system. This point system provides earned incentives to those development projects that meet a set of defined policy objectives.
To qualify for the Vacant Lot & Adaptive Re-Use Incentive Program, interested parties must submit an application including a full development proposal for an existing vacant or brownfield site, or an adaptive re-use project that is in an established area of the city. To learn more about the program or to download an application form, visit www.saskatoon.ca (look under "V" for Vacant Lot & Adaptive Re-Use Strategy) or contact the Planning & Development Branch by phonce at (306) 975-3340.
