The national inflation rate was 1.2 per cent.

StatsCan said the faster year-over-year increase was largely attributed to higher gas prices, along with a rise in shelter costs and food prices.

In a separate report also released on Friday, StatsCan said the annual increase in consumer prices in Saskatchewan for 2013 was 1.5 per cent, a 0.1 percentage point drop from 2012.
