TORONTO – Firefighters are still working to contain hot spots left over from a 3-alarm fire on Yorkville Avenue that began Wednesday morning.

The fire started just before 9 a.m. at 84 Yorkville Ave where a restaurant, hair salon and a spa is situated. The fire started in the middle of the building before moving to the roof.

The fire was initially called a 2-alarm fire but was raised due to the cold weather.

Fire crews had a difficult time controlling the fire because of the long, narrow design of the building as well as its age. It was one of the original Yorkville Avenue buildings.

Firefighters had to evacuate the burning building around 10 a.m. due to the severity of the fire and the unsafe conditions.

However, crews were still able to fight the blaze from the ground and on adjacent building roof tops.

Two spa workers were treated for smoke inhalation but no other injuries were reported.

The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal has been brought in for the investigation.

Police say Yorkville Ave. between Bay and Hazelton, Bellair at Cumberland are closed.

Meanwhile, police sent a tweet saying a man was arrested on scene after he allegedly attacked a firefighter.
