Fredericton police arrest backpack thief and victim

FREDERICTON – Two men face charges after police in Fredericton recovered a backpack containing money and drugs.

They were called to the University of New Brunswick campus on Thursday after a 21-year-old student reported that a man had jumped him and stolen his backpack.

Police arrested a 23-year-old man a short time later.

While conducting a search of the backpack, police says they found different types of illicit drugs and a substantial amount of cash.

That led officers back to the victim of the theft who was then placed under arrest.

Both men have been released pending court appearances.
