Man seriously injured in Edmonton collision after attempting to flee from police
Edmonton – A serious collision happened in north Edmonton at around midnight Monday following a brief police chase.
Police say officers tried to stop a Pontiac Grand Prix late Sunday night in the area of 93 Street and 120 Avenue because the licence plate didn’t belong to the vehicle.
The Pontiac pulled over to let a passenger out, then fled from police.

Air-1 was called to help with the pursuit. The Pontiac was located on 122 Avenue and 104 Street.
Police say Air-1 followed the vehicle as it headed east on Yellowhead Trail at excessive speeds.
The car exited onto the 97 Street off-ramp, crossed 97 Street, then attempted to take the off-ramp eastbound onto the Yellowhead. The Pontiac lost control, struck a concrete barrier, then collided with the back of a dump truck and trailer.
The driver of the Pontiac was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remains in intensive care.
The driver of the dump truck wasn’t injured.
Police believe alcohol and speed were factors in the collision, and a number of charges are pending against the driver from Ontario.
The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Downtown Division continues to investigate with the assistance of EPS Major Collision Investigations Unit.
