Police ‘stumped’ by Whitby father’s disappearance

TORONTO – Durham police investigators have “no clue” as to the whereabouts of a Whitby father who went missing a week ago.

“We are truly stumped in this particular investigation,” said Durham police Detective Mitch Martin during a media briefing Monday morning. “We have very few leads to go on. Mr. Boucher appears to have vanished.”

The Bowmanville High School teacher went missing last Monday morning after it’s believed he headed out for one of his routine jogs, but no one saw him leave his home.

Since then, teams of police officers and volunteers have checked and rechecked several kilometres of terrain around his house east of Toronto.

“Up until this point, we have located no evidence of Mr. Boucher in this area,” said Search Manager Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. “We have also checked running routes known that Mr. Boucher has travelled. There have been no sightings of Mr. Boucher.”

Police say there’s no evidence to suggest foul play or that he may have even fallen during his morning run.

“If Mr. Boucher has fallen,…it’ll be inconceivable that he’ll be alive,” said Det. Martin. “Done extensive background check. We found nothing unusual about his past.”

Police say they have stopped searching the area Boucher is known to frequent during his runs but maintain the investigation is ongoing.

“He’s a missing person right now,” he said. “File remains open. Right now we need some leads from the community.”

Meanwhile, authorities say Boucher’s family is still struggling with the situation and wishing for his safe return.

“The family is distraught,” said Det. Martin. “There is no normal in a situation like this. The family members are missing their father, their husband.”
