More than 1,500 people are shaving their heads on Friday for the 9th annual Hair Massacure.
The official kick off began Friday morning with Premier Ed Stelmach shaving the head of Edmonton Eskimo Graeme Bell. Soon after the floor of the ice palace in Eest Edmonton Mall was covered with hot-pink hair.
Many Edmontonians are still lined up with pledge forms to raise money for cancer research.
This year, they hope to raise $1 million dollars.
"It’s very emotional." Tammy MacDonald of the Founding Family said. "We have crazy, we have sad, it’s a sad, sad reason we do this but we try to make it a lot of fun"
Some of the Edmonton Oilers including Taylor Hall, Jordon Eberle and Theo Peckham are expected to shave their heads later on Friday.
