A Kelowna church got an immersion in Swahili song and dance on Sunday.
The Watoto Children’s Choir is currently touring Canada.
On Sunday, it performed a Concert of Hope at the Lakeview Heights Baptist Church.
The word watoto means “the children” in Swahili.
The young performers are from Uganda and have lost either one or both of their parents to AIDS, poverty, war or other circumstances.
Team leader Stephen Banyikiza says the choir not only teaches the children to perform but raises them up as leaders who will one day re-build the country of Uganda.
The choir will also perform in Alberta, Ontario and Newfoundland.
