Man charged in series of stabbings on 17th Avenue

CALGARY- A series of stabbings in southwest Calgary have resulted in charges against one man, and police are searching for one other suspect.

On Sunday evening, three people were attacked, and police believe two of the incidents were random.

The first happened just after 6 p.m. when a man was approached by three men near Westbrook Mall. He was followed and cornered by them, before being stabbed. He managed to flee and was taken to hospital by EMS.

A short time later, a man was walking with a friend nearby when they were approached by two men wanting to start a fight. The man was stabbed before the suspects fled.

Then just before 9 p.m., a man in his 30s was found unconscious at a home in the 2400 block of 17 Ave. S.W. suffering from stab wounds. He had to undergo emergency surgery in hospital, and is now recovering. Investigators say he is known to the accused, and may have been present at the first stabbing but not involved.

On Wednesday, police arrested 25-year-old Dayna Lawrence Noname of Calgary and charged him with three counts of aggravated assault.

Police are still searching for a second man, but are not naming him.
