SPCA ready for charges in horse cruelty case

KAMLOOPS, B.C. – Charges could be recommended by the end of this month against four people suspected of animal cruelty at a farm near Kamloops, B.C.

BC SPCA senior animal protection officer Kent Kokoska says investigators have completed interviews and evidence collection after several horses were found emaciated and near death at the farm.

He says the SPCA has seized more horses from various properties around Kamloops since last fall,

Sixteen horses remain under the care of the society and seven are ready for new homes, but Kokoska says another four had to be destroyed.

One was found dead on a farm as officers arrived to answer a complaint.

The SPCA is currently probing six separate allegations of animal cruelty in the Kamloops area. (CFJC)
