Regina shoppers could have a second Costco coming to the Queen City.
Rumours about a second location have circulated for a number of years; now it is looking more likely.
According to a development application filed to the City of Regina, the new location would be in the west end of the city, next to the Westerra neighbourhood, at 8701 Dewdney Ave.
The plans include more than 14,000 square metres of shopping and a Costco gas station.
There is no timeline for when the project could be built. The application is still being reviewed.
For those who shop at Costco, a new location is a welcome one.
“I think it’s very obvious that the city is growing, and I think another location would be equally as busy and it’s much needed,” shopper Kendall Kaczmer said.
For those that commute, another location is also good.
” I have a very big family, people I shop for, so it’s just a better option to shop for larger quantities, better price, executive membership,” shopper Jasmyn Brown said.
Ward 8 Councilor Shanon Zachidniak added that the project would benefit the city and her ward by bringing more amenities to the area.
“I welcome folks to submit anything that they would like to ensure are considered (with this project)” Zachidniak said.
Those wishing to submit public comments will be able to do so until August 14th.
