Ottawa hit hard by nasty mix of snow and rain

TORONTO – Canada’s capital is being slammed with a mix of snow and rain which has forced the cancellation of school bus service in the region Monday morning.

The mixed precipitation will turn into freezing rain or just rain as the temperatures rise to plus 1 degrees Celsius from -4 overnight.

The Ottawa Student Transportation Authority (OSTA) has cancelled all buses for students in the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board as a result of inclement weather and adverse road conditions.

More than 50 flights have been cancelled Monday morning and dozens more have been delayed at the Ottawa International Airport.

Passengers are advised to check their flight status with their airline.

North and South Ottawa is currently under a freezing rain, flash freeze and wind chill warning. Areas north of Pembroke could be in for 20 cm of snow by the end of the day.

Meanwhile, rain or freezing rain will change to a few flurries in the morning. Winds are expected to pick up in the afternoon and by Tuesday the temperature will drop hard to -18 degrees Celsius.
