WINNIPEG – Much of south Winnipeg spent part of Sunday evening in the dark.

Hydro was knocked out across parts of St. Vital, Fort Richmond, Richmond West, Sage Creek, River Park South, St. Norbert and the community of Oak Bluff.

Residents reported power had been going on and off all afternoon in those areas.

A Manitoba Hydro spokesperson said up to 16,000 customers were experiencing intermittent outages.

“There is an issue with a transmission line,” said Scott Powell, of Manitoba Hydro.

Powell said crews were working on the problem.

At around 6:45 p.m. alternative power was rerouted into the area while crews worked to fix the transmission line issue.

“When it is cold we want to minimize the length of any outage,” said Powell.
