Some Canadians will have to dig out their shovels as Honda Canada Inc. recalled more than 17,000 snowblowers on Wednesday.

The company is telling consumers to stop using the snowblowers immediately due to a fire risk caused by problems with the fuel tank joint.

A notice on Health Canada’s website warns that leaking gasoline could ignite and cause burns or serious injuries. Neither Health Canada nor Honda has received any reports of injuries at this time.

Honda is advising owners of the snowblowers to bring the machines into a Honda Power Equipment dealer where the fuel tank joint will be replaced free of charge.

The recall involves snowblowers sold between July 2005 and January 2011 with following model and serial numbers: HS622-SZAL 1132227 to 1135769; HS724-SZBE 1039093 to 1046537; HS928-SZAS 1153849 to 1168932; HS1132-SZBF 1019384 to 1025493; HS1336i-SACJ 1014018 to 1014057; HSM1336i-SAKJ 1001284 to 1004177.
