Volunteers were called to the city on Thursday to help locate the 80-year-old man who went missing Wednesday morning.

Glen Bell, who has also gone by the name ‘Archie,’ went missing around 11:30 a.m. from his home.

“This is not unusual for Bell however due to his age, he gets lost more frequently when going on walks,” Moose Jaw police said Wednesday.

Bell is Amber Newsham’s great uncle. She said Bell dealt with dementia and Parkinson’s disease.

“He likes to go on walks, but he sometimes gets confused and gets lost,” Newsham said. “He has never been gone this long… I just hope we find him.”

As of Thursday afternoon, over 100 volunteers had showed up to help with the search.

Police said Bell was found dead in a remote greenspace in the city around noon on Friday.

Many of the volunteers Global News spoke to on Thursday said they didn’t know Bell but know the fear and pain of losing someone close to them.

“I know the experience of losing a loved one who’s gone missing,” volunteer Melanie Alix said. “I know how important it is for the family to show up and search, and do whatever we can to help.”

“You know in a few years it could be me (missing) and you try to do what you can in your community,” volunteer Grant Mclaughlan said.

” I hope the same thing will happen for my own parents and anyone who is at a disadvantage when they need to be found hopefully safe,” volunteer Mike Overs said.
