Two people have been charged after a man was fatally stabbed in Burnaby, B.C., Monday evening near the border with Vancouver.
BC Prosecution Service has charged Riza Jafari, 32, and Hatice Haydari, 28, with second-degree murder in the death of the 40-year-old man.
Yellow police tape surrounded an area on 1st Avenue near Ingleton after Burnaby RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing around 6:15 p.m.
RCMP say officers found a man unconscious with life-threatening injuries. First responders tried to save him but he died at the scene, RCMP say.
Mounties secured the area and arrested the two suspects, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said in a Tuesday afternoon release.
Police have not identified the victim.
“As the parties were all known to one another, investigators do not believe there is any ongoing risk to public safety,” says Corporal Esther Tupper of IHIT.
IHIT has taken over the investigation and is looking to speak with any witnesses or anyone with dashcam video in the area between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
