SASKATOON – A wind chill warning has been issued for areas east of Saskatoon.

Environment Canada says extreme wind chills are expected in the warned areas on Monday afternoon and into the evening hours.

An arctic ridge of high pressure from northwestern Alberta to southern Manitoba has brought bitterly cold temperature to Saskatchewan.

Northwesterly winds of 15 to 20 km/h combined with the cold will create wind chills of minus 40 to 45 before the winds ease off overnight.

There is also a wind chill warning in place for the northeast corner of the province where wind chills near minus 45 are expected all day.

Frostbite on exposed skin can occur in less than 10 minutes.
