‘GMA’ host Robin Roberts comes out

TORONTO — Well known TV personality Robin Roberts came out Sunday, publicly acknowledging her girlfriend in a Facebook message.

“I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together,” the Good Morning America anchor wrote in her year-end message.

It is the first time Roberts has publicly acknowledged that she is gay.

The 53-year-old has previously shared her battle with breast cancer and her 2012 diagnosis of myelodysplastic syndrome. She returned to GMA in February after taking a leave to undergo a bone marrow transplant.

“At this moment I am at peace and filled with joy and gratitude,” she wrote Sunday.

Sam Champion, who left GMA earlier this month, married his partner Rubem Robierb in 2012.
