SASKATOON – According to Environment Canada, southern Saskatchewan is in for a drastic change in weather Friday night.
Currently very mild temperatures at or a few degrees below zero are seen across much of the southern portion of the province.
By Friday night, a low pressure system tracking across southern Saskatchewan will push a cold front southward spreading snow and rapidly falling temperatures.
The worst conditions are expected overnight into Saturday morning when the snowfall is expected to intensify.
Five to ten centimetres of snow is expected accompanied by northerly winds gusting up to 60 km/h.
Temperatures are expected to plummet into the minus double digits, with wind chill values in the minus 25 to minus 35 range by Saturday morning.
Localized blizzard conditions with gusts as high as 70 km/h are possible early Saturday morning in the Cypress Hills area.
