UPDATED: Man, 20, arrested in Clayton Park shooting

HALIFAX – A 20-year-old man wanted in connection to a shooting was arrested following a car chase through Lower Sackville.

Around 9 p.m. on Monday, Halifax-area RCMP spotted a vehicle connected to the case, a yellow Pontiac Aztek. Officers tried to pull over the SUV, but the driver lead them on a pursuit down Cobequid Road.

The car rammed a police cruiser, hit another vehicle and dodged a spike strip before crashing near Glendale Drive. The driver sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the QEII Health Sciences Centre for treatment. No one else was injured in the chase, said police.

The driver is a suspect in a shooting at the Quality Inn on Parkland Drive. Around 6 a.m. on Monday,  a 53-year-old man was arguing with a 20-year-old man in the hotel parking lot. According to the older man, the argument escalated until the younger man assaulted and shot at him. The victim was not injured by the shots. The younger man took the victim’s yellow Pontiac Aztek and fled the scene before police arrived.

The victim and suspect knew each other, said Cst. Pierre Bourdages of the Halifax Regional Police. Neither man was staying at the hotel.

Police are still investigating a motive in the shooting. Charges are pending against the 20-year-old man, said police.
