Dimitri Nelson Hyacinth, 27, has been charged with aggravated assault in the case of Jatinder Singh, who was stabbed in the neck as he sat on a bench with his wife on April 21.

Singh survived but faces a long recovery.

Also, Hyacinth was arrested on April 29 in Surrey in connection with the homicide of Kulwinder Singh Sohi, also on the White Rock Promenade.

He died at the scene.

A meeting on community safety is set to be held in White Rock at the community centre on Tuesday between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. for residents to ask questions from RCMP and city officials.

Sohi, a 26-year-old Red Seal plumber, was stabbed just 48 hours after another man was stabbed in the neck in the same part of White Rock.

White Rock Mayor Megan Knight praised the efforts of police, which she said could help bring a sense of relief to the community.

“While this development doesn’t alter the tragic loss of a young life, and trauma injuries sustained by another days earlier, I hope that it may provide some measure of solace to the family and friends of Kulwinder and Jatinder,” Knight said in a video statement.

IHIT is asking that any witnesses or anyone who was in the area of the White Rock Promenade, east of the White Rock Pier near the parking lot adjacent to the Grand Chief Bernard Robert Charles (Pa-Kwach-Tun) Memorial Plaza or driving on Marine Drive on April 23, 2024, between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., with dash cameras or anyone who may have information regarding the homicide to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
