In 2001, North America fell in love with Amelie, the movie about a shy French waitress with the impish smile who stole her father’s garden gnome, played tricks on a grocer and mended the hearts of lonely souls. Part of the film’s magic was composer/pianist Yann Tiersen’s soundtrack … as whimsical and forlorn as Amelie herself.
(He also accomplished the same feat with the soundtrack to Goodbye Lenin!, another heavy-hearted comedy.) Tiersen isn’t just a film composer who hides in studios, though. In October, he released his first album for ANTI-, Dust Lane, and he’s about to tour across Canada, including a March 1 stop at The Starlite Room.
