Both RCMP and the Independent Investigations Office are looking into a Kelowna motorcycle crash on Highway 97 at University Way that left a man seriously injured.
Police said in a Wednesday press release that at around 5:20 p.m., April 15, a lone male rider lost control of his red Harley Davidson on the University Way exit ramp from Highway 97.
On Thursday, RCMP updated the information released to include that the Independent Investigations Office had been informed of the crash, because an officer had tried to pull over the motorbike before it happened.
In that release, police said the officer noted the driver behaviour, activated emergency equipment and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The motorbike didn’t stop and the consequences were serious.
“Shortly after, the motorcycle reportedly lost control and crashed on the off-ramp from Highway 97 to University Way,” RCMP said.
The man suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
RCMP are looking for information or dash cam footage and releasing some details about the driver. He was wearing a dark plaid jacket, a black helmet and jeans.
