The incident took place at a landing development just north of Outlook, Sask.

After Laidlaw offered to fix bear’s flat tire, a confrontation ensued and the retired officer was attacked.

The defence argued that the stabbings were unplanned, seeking a sentence of between five to seven years.

The crown was seeking a ten year sentence.
