MOOSE JAW, Sask. – About three dozen doctors in four Saskatchewan communities have closed their clinics to attend a one-day meeting for an update on contract talks with the province.
The Saskatchewan Medical Association says in a release that physicians’ offices will be closed in Moose Jaw, Assiniboia, Caronport and Gravelbourg.
The association says besides the contract issue, doctors will learn about the dangers of fatigue on the job.
It also says patients who have appointments are being asked to reschedule them, but emergency and acute-care services in local hospitals will not be affected.
Saskatchewan doctors have been without a contract for more than a year and a half.
Doctors in the Swift Current region held a similar meeting last week and the medical association says more shutdowns are likely around the province.
