UDPATE: Coquihalla re-opened southbound following accident

KELOWNA, BC – UPDATE 4:10 PM – The Coquihalla Highway has been re-opened southbound, but remains closed in northbound following an accident that happened 10km south of the Great Bear Snowshed around 2:00 PM Wednesday, according to the BC Ministry of Transportation.

There is no estimated full re-opening time.

Global News has heard two semi’s collided while attempting to pass. An ambulance was seen on its side in a nearby in a ditch. The route is reportedly very icy.

DriveBC.ca is reporting the northbound lanes of Highway 5 are closed 4 km north of Exit 202, also known as the Portia Interchange.

Single lane traffic is also reported 15km’s north of the old toll plaza on the Coquihalla, following another serious accident.
