At-large violent sex offender found dead

A violent sex offender who’s been on the lam for five months has turned up dead.

The body of Dale Edward Koender was found Nov. 25 in the 43800-block Production Way in a wooded area near Chilliwack Mountain.

His ID was found at the scene.

“Dental records have now confirmed that the deceased person found was Dale Edward Koenders who has been unlawfully at large since July 8, 2010,” said Const. Lea-Anne Dunlop of the Upper Fraser Valley RCMP.

The subsequent investigation and autopsy have found no indications of foul play.

Koenders, 46, skipped out from day parole from the Chilliwack Correction Centre July 8.

He was convicted for sex offences in the Chemainus area between 1985 and 1987, including sexually assaulting at knifepoint a 19-year-old woman in her home.

Koenders had been designated a dangerous offender, meaning he was at a high-risk to re-offend, and a Canada-wide warrant was issued for his arrest.

Various sightings of Koenders were reported in Abbotsford, the Fraser Valley and Vancouver Island areas.

At the time, police expressed concern for the safety of the communities with Koenders at large.
