“The manufacturing sector is thriving in our province, and the record numbers for October will definitely give the economy a boost as we head into 2014,” says Bill Boyd, Saskatchewan economy minister.
Over 27,000 people in Saskatchewan are employed through the manufacturing industry which generated $14.2 billion in shipments in 2012.
September was also a record-breaking month for Saskatchewan, with a 9 per cent increase over the previous month, totalling $1.3 billion.
From September to October, the province’s manufacturing sales increased 0.5 per cent.
In October, Canadian manufacturing sales increased 1 per cent to $50.1 billion. Sales were up in seven provinces, compared to September.
StatsCan says the increase was mostly due to higher manufacturing sales in the Canadian food industry.
