RCMP in Nova Scotia have uncovered remains in a wooded area near downtown Truro, but say it’s too soon to confirm whether or not they belong a missing former Hells Angel.
Officers had been combing the area for several days in hopes of finding some trace of Randy Mersereau, 48, a past member of the Hells Angels’ Nova Scotia chapter. He was last seen alive on Oct. 31, 1999.
The discovery of the body on Sunday afternoon could have implications for Jeffrey Albert Lynds, 42, of Nova Scotia. He, too, is a former Hells Angel, and is currently in custody in Montreal while he faces two first-degree murder charges in connection with the deaths of two South Shore men who were fatally shot in the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant in Notre Dame de Grâce in January.
Another Nova Scotia man has already been charged in connection with Mersereau’s disappearance and presumed death.
Gerald Leslie MacCabe, 43, was charged in Truro provincial court last week with being an accessory after the fact to murder. The charge against MacCabe identifies Lynds as the person who killed Mersereau.
Lynds is expected back in court on Jan. 11 for proceedings related to the McDonald’s shooting. As of 8 p.m. Sunday, he had not been formally charged in connection with Mersereau’s death.
