One eastbound lane of Anthony Henday Drive in south Edmonton was reopened after being closed to traffic Wednesday afternoon due to a serious collision.
In a news release just after 3 p.m., Edmonton police said one eastbound lane of the ring road was closed between 111th Street and Calgary Trail as police investigate “a serious injury collision.”
Edmonton police said a Honda Civic was travelling eastbound on Anthony Henday Drive just past 111 Street at around 12:38 p.m. when it struck the driver’s side of a loaded tractor-trailer travelling in the same direction. The sedan then travelled across two additional lanes of traffic and into the centre median, where it struck a light standard head-on.
The 25-year-old female driver of the Honda Civic was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported at the time.
The Edmonton Police Service Collision Investigations Section is investigating the crash. Police said a medical episode was a factor in this collision.
