Were you logged out of your Facebook and Instagram accounts on Tuesday? You’re not alone.
Thousands of social media users in Canada and across the globe reported being unable to access their Facebook and Instagram feeds amid a massive outage of the platforms owned by Meta.
The disruptions started around 10 a.m. ET, according to Downdetector.com, which tracks outages by collecting status reports from different sources, including user-submitted errors on its website. The outage lasted for more than two hours.
At the peak of the outage, there were more than 550,000 reports of disruptions for Facebook and about 92,000 for Instagram, according to Downdetector.com.
The issue has now been resolved, according to Meta.
“Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services,” Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
Facebook apologized for temporarily leaving its users in the dark.
Earlier, Meta’s status dashboard showed the application programming interface for WhatsApp Business was also facing issues.
However, the outage for WhatsApp and Threads was much smaller, according to Downdetector.com.
Tuesday’s outage was among the top trending topics on X, with the platform’s owner Elon Musk taking a shot at Meta with a post that said: “If you’re reading this post, it’s because our servers are working.”
