Test results could take 3 months in twin baby deaths

Could be 3 months to get cause of death in Saskatchewan infant deaths: coroner. File / Global News

LOON LAKE, Sask. – An autopsy has been completed on seven-month-old twin boys who died on a northern Saskatchewan reserve.

The coroner says it could be three months before results are available from several tests on the babies from the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation.

The tests include toxicology panels and microbiology cultures.

RCMP said earlier this week that a family member called for help after the boys were found not breathing at a home on the reserve near Loon Lake.

The twins were taken to the health centre where they were pronounced dead.

The family has asked for privacy.

An RCMP spokesman has said that, as with all sudden deaths, investigators are treating the case as suspicious until proven otherwise.
