A teenage cyclist is in serious condition, after he was hit by a pickup truck carrying a trailer on Wednesday morning in Mississauga.

Peel Regional Police were called to Bristol Road and Hurontario Street around 7:50 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found the cyclist conscious with serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital, where medical staff have determined his injuries are life threatening, said Constable George Tudos.

The driver of the truck was not injured and remained on scene. The circumstances surrounding the collision are still being determined.

The accident took place in a residential area and a few schools are nearby, said Const. Tudos.

Bristol Road was closed in both directions as police investigate.
