Toronto Police say they are searching for four male suspects after an armed smash and grab robbery at a jewelry store at Yorkdale Mall on Wednesday night.
Police were called to the mall at around 8:44 p.m. for reports of a robbery.
In an update, police said four suspects entered a jewelry store within the mall, one of which produced a handgun and pointed it at employees.
Police said the other suspects began to smash the glass display cases with hammers, and a quantity of cash and jewelry was obtained.
The suspects then fled the area in a vehicle before officers arrived.
No injuries were reported.
Video posted online shows four people running through Yorkdale Mall passing by Tiffany & Co. Some mallgoers, including security personnel, were seen inside of the mall.
Police said members of the Hold Up Squad have now commenced an investigation and are looking to identify the suspects.
The four male suspects are described as approximately 5’8”, all having slim builds and were seen wearing masks, gloves and dark clothing.
Investigators said the vehicle used by the suspects is described as a newer model grey SUV.
“Guest and employee safety is our top priority. We’re relieved that no employees or guests were injured, and that Toronto Police Services (TPS) was onsite within minutes,” said a spokesperson for Yorkdale Mall in a statement.
“We have security officers patrolling at all times who escalate any safety concerns to TPS. Yorkdale’s enhanced security and surveillance monitoring allows us to respond immediately to any incidents and to assist TPS with investigations,” they said.
The spokesperson said they are now working closely with TPS and retailers to enhance police and security presence throughout the mall.
Police are asking residents, businesses and drivers who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or incident to contact investigators.
Investigators advise that if the suspects are located, do not approach them, and call 9-1-1 immediately.
