TORONTO – Toronto Maple Leafs Captain Dion Phaneuf was suspended for two games Tuesday by the NHL department of player safety.
Phaneuf was punished for the illegal hit from behind on Boston Bruins’ Kevan Miller during Sunday night’s game at the Air Canada Centre.

The suspension is Phaneuf’s first in his career, though he has racked up 833 penalty minutes.
The Leafs have been slumping in recent games and will play the defending Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings in Toronto on Wednesday before travelling to St. Louis to take on the Blues.
