KINDERSLEY, Sask. – Hockey fans in Kindersley, Sask, received an unforgettable NHL surprise on Saturday as the Stanley Cup came to town.
Earlier this year, Scotiabank asked employees across Canada to send in stories about the positive impact hockey has had on community and one stood out.
Gwendolyn Hrycak, Scotiabank small business account manager at the Kindersley branch, explained how her community had lost the local hockey arena in a fire.

Surrounding communities rose to the occasion by opening up their rinks to Kindersley’s hockey fans and players.
Scotiabank’s community hockey program recognized this inspiring act by bringing hockey’s most iconic trophy and surprise guest, NHL alumnus Lanny McDonald for one day.
McDonald played 16 years and registered over 1,000 points in the NHL, playing mostly for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Calgary Flames.
Local hockey enthusiasts got a chance to pose for photos with Lord Stanley’s Cup and have autographs signed by a Canadian hockey legend.
“We are so thrilled that Scotiabank wanted to honour our town in such a meaningful way and I know this is something that the hockey players and their families will remember for the rest of their lives,” said Hyrcak.
Scotiabank’s program reaches out to over 4,500 minor hockey teams and leagues.
