Fire burns Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan deck in Saskatoon

Saskatoon fire crews reported to a fire located on the riverbank underneath a wooden viewing deck early at the Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan outdoor stage early on Tuesday. Saskatoon fire investigators determined that the fire was left unattended. – Dec 12, 2023

The deck on the riverbank at Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan in Saskatoon was on fire Tuesday morning.

The Saskatoon Fire Department said it received a report of a fire along the riverbank at 7:46 a.m. in the 900 block of Spadina Crescent East.

Fire crews found the fire under the deck.

The fire investigator estimated the damage at $10,000, saying it stemmed from an open-air fire that was left unattended.

Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan sent out a statement on the fire, asking for the public to avoid the area due to possible danger from the structural damage.

The organization noted that the Winter’s Tale Light Show will be temporarily cancelled until the site is safe again.
