SASKATOON – A Winnipeg semi driver is facing a charge after an accident at a busy Saskatoon interchange created a major traffic snarl and resulted in a fuel spill.
The accident happened Tuesday night as the semi was exiting Idylwyld Drive onto Highway 16 in the city’s north end.
Police say the 63-year-old driver tried to change lanes but lost control of his rig, which rolled on its side.
Two trailers he was towing ended up blocking two northbound lanes of traffic and a large volume of diesel leaked from semi’s fuel tank.
The truck was not carrying any dangerous goods but environmental personnel were called in to help with the cleanup.
The truck driver, who suffered non life-threatening injuries, has been charged with changing lanes when unsafe.
