16 snakes die in Newmarket house fire

TORONTO – A fire call led emergency crews to discover 18 snakes inside a Newmarket home Friday morning.

The fire started around 5 a.m. at 210 Cherrywood Drive and all the residents managed to exit the home.

One person was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.

While treating the fire, crews located 18 non-venomous snakes inside the home, 16 were found dead.

Fire crews were able to rescue the other two.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
