Northeast Calgary residents still snowed in

CALGARY- Three days after a blizzard pummeled the province, some northeast Calgary residents are still snowed in.

While it’s illegal to hire a private plow to clear streets in the city, some people say they have no choice. Residents of Skyview Ranch haven’t been able to go to school or work because they’re trapped behind massive snow drifts.

“I’ve had to keep my daughter home and my husband missed work yesterday and the day before… it’s not good,” complained Roxanne Roberts, who finally ventured out on Wednesday after running out of groceries.

Homeowner Kurt Thiessen hasn’t seen any crews on his street yet, but hopes they’ll hit the back alley.

“What are we as taxpayers supposed to do?” he says, of the dozens of people snowed in by eight foot snow drifts. “Just run a plow down the back lane, that’s not asking much.”
