According to a Calgary Police Service spokesperson, calls came in at around 2:19 a.m. for shots fired in the area of Macewan Glen Way and Macewan Glen Place Northwest.

Two houses were hit but nobody was injured, the spokesperson said. The scene is currently being held for investigation and a gun was found at the scene, they added.

Police were unable to confirm details of what happened.

Curtis Masikewich, a resident who has lived in the area for nine years, heard the shots early in the morning but went back to sleep shortly after. He saw the police tape later that morning and noticed multiple bullets struck his house.

He described the neighbourhood as “sleepy” and quiet, filled with families and older residents.

“It’s scary. You don’t expect that to happen in a neighbourhood like this or in Calgary, but when it happens it’s a wakeup call,” he told Global News. “You definitely question some things.”

Tanis Bartlett woke up to her alarm going off because a window broke. She told Global News she noticed a bullet hit a television in her bedroom, and that was when she noticed a bullet hole in her bedroom window.

Bartlett said the bullet missed her head by three feet.

“We don’t see a lot of stuff going on here. I’m shocked,” she said. “It’s a quiet neighbourhood … Most people have never heard of Macewan.”
