TORONTO – Ontario’s Health Minister Deb Matthews says she never added up how much Ornge‘s ousted CEO made during his time at the troubled air ambulance service.

It’s been reported that Chris Mazza collected $9.3 million over six years, which was never divulged publicly and is far more than previously known.

Even though it was already disclosed that Mazza was paid a huge salary on top of hefty loans from Ornge, Matthews says she didn’t try to find out the total amount.

She also confirmed that a forensic audit done by the government wasn’t provided to the legislative committee looking into the scandal-plagued Ornge, which receives about $150 million a year from the province.

Matthews said she didn’t look at the audit – which may have contained more information about how much Mazza collected – before it was sent to the police team that’s still investigating Ornge.

Members of the opposition parties who sit on the committee say they never got information that indicated that Mazza made that much money.

But Matthews says all information about Mazza’s salary was included in the millions of pages of documents her ministry sent to the committee.
