The Lions Gate Bridge is now open following a two-vehicle accident that closed the bridge in both directions Tuesday morning.
West Vancouver Police say a northbound vehicle entered one of the southbound lanes and collided with a second car.
The driver of the northbound vehicle suffered fractures and other injuries. Two occupants of the southbound vehicle did not appear to have suffered any injuries, but were taken to hospital for observation.
West Vancouver Fire and Rescue crews had to deploy the ‘jaws of life’ to remove the driver from the northbound vehicle.
Drivers were asked to take the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge as an alternate route, but that route was very busy for a few hours with the morning rush. West Vancouver Police say they appreciate the patience of the public dealing with the traffic delays this morning.
The specific cause of the collision remains under investigation.
Police have spoken with several witnesses, and are asking anyone who directly observed the collision, who hasn’t yet spoken to an officer, to call West Vancouver Police at 604-925-7300.
